Preinstallation - what you need:
- A PC (see minimum specification) with Network Card or Ethernet Router
- A spare Power Socket within 2m of the PC/router
- A firewall (either hardware or software)
Where will the connection be? Most installations require an external installation. This is most often done by attaching an antenna to your TV aerial. A network cable then runs down the outside wall to the point of entry into the house. The cable then terminates on the desired inside wall. A power socket is needed within 1m of the wall and the attached PC or router should be no more than 2m from that point.
Please note that we will only supply connections to the inside of an outside wall; we will not route cables within the house. If this is required, please contact us about our cabling service.
Will we set up your home computer system? Our standard service does not include setting up your home system. This surprises new broadband users but is universal throughout the industry as the range of customer based equipment is limitless (eg Xbox, PC, Sky).
As with most ISPs we do offer an additional home setup service for most PC based systems. This is done at a very competitive rate; eg One Windows XP PC for £40.
Our engineers will show you the connection is live and make sure you are happy with the connection.
How long will the installation take? Most installations take less than an hour, but please allow 2.5 hours if it is a non-standard installation.
